Inclusion, like diversity, is an opportunity to embrace and value all the various factors that make up an individual. This wide spectrum of backgrounds, experiences, and preferences make for a well-rounded person…and a well-rounded department. In 2007, we became the first City of Austin public safety agency to participate in the Austin PRIDE parade. We’ve continued our involvement every year since and are proud of our efforts to make our department as diverse as it can possibly be.
Identifying as both a firefighter and a member of the LGBTQ community are not mutually exclusive; just as one does not solely define an individual, neither does the other. We welcome ALL to our department! If you or someone you know is considering joining the Austin Fire Department but has questions, the people noted below would love to talk to you.
